In July, we had the privilege to go on NMEA:s annual conference in New Hampshire, USA . Click here to go to their website.
We got to listen to some of the latest marine research. Among other things, the mapping of the seabed, lobster fishing and invasive species. We also got to meet other educators who work with similar things we. A really exciting project that we are curious about is dealing with the so called. miniboats. There are small boats that sail around the ocean and log their position. The students who are involved in the project can follow them and get an insight into how the currents and the winds behave. And they can also connect with other schools in the world right their ship founder on another continent. Almost message in a bottle.
We also met a teacher who builds custom coral reefs in the classroom, really really exciting.
One of the days we had a talk about how we work at our school. We talked about our thoughts on how to work with scientific instruments to get students interested and curious.
Drifter launched from Gullmar Gymnasiets Arronet
We have been chosen to represent Sweden at the autumn conference Science on Stage as 2019 go in Cascais in Portugal. This week, we do a little “commercial” for Dynamene-Drifter that we will use for the Conference.
3-anniversary
We have celebrated three years as a science club and it's incredibly fun. The week after the winter holiday 2016 we started what is now been Gullmar upper secondary school science club. To mark the occasion the dean came with cake.
Real-life situation
Now Drifter tested for real!
We got together with a few students to follow when a group of master's students from the University of Gothenburg would make an excursion on Gullmarsfjorden. The group was led by oceanographers Sebastiaan Swart and Louise Biddle.
In a few hours the Drifter with the tide in Gullmarsfjorden before we picked up the. We got some data that we shared with us to master students.
Drifter is just fine in the water. A little color on the lid, only, we will find it easier next time!
All in!
Now we are in full swing to photograph for our building descriptions of the excesses we are doing. It's a project we're working with and funded by ocean (sea- and water authority).
